I am a part-time PhD student at the University of Sheffield.
I am a full time Widening Participation Officer at the University of Leicester.
I am a Trustee for the City of Leicester Museums Trust.
I am a LARPer (Live Action Role Player).
I mostly grew up in Leicester and returned after completing a BA(hons) in Art History at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (as it was then). Since then I have worked in a call centre, as a bank manager and as the Richard III Outreach Officer for the University of Leicester amongst other jobs. I have always loved museums and took the chance to complete an MA in Museum Studies at Leicester, then an MRes in Labour Market Studies (my dissertation was museum studies based) and now I study part time for a PhD at the University of Sheffield.
I became a Trustee for our local museum service to give back something after having volunteered for the in between jobs and found that their help was invaluable in getting me on the right track. With everything else I do and bills to pay I couldn’t commit to a day a week volunteering anymore so when the Trustee position came up, I went for it.
I dipped my toes into LARPing when I was at university (the first time). Nearly two decades later I have run my own events, been in charge of a fictional country with a fictional army, met a multitude of amazing people and worn a range of ridiculous costumes.
I have an ‘other-half’, lodger and a cat. You will see pictures of the photogenic cat.
